If I weren't so tired and
so mad I would cry...the upper
knife on my serger just broke.
I was serging along and pop, the
tip shot right up and hit my
shoulder. I was in the middle
of the cutest dress...white with
black damask with a red and white
polka dot hem band with a matching
bow. I have 2 other dresses cut,
they won't be finished tonight as
planned. I better be able to get
a replacement knife tomorrow...
I seriously wish someone
were up so I could scream and
have a pitty party...

SUCCESS...Kinda of...
I posted earlier about my
Homemade Laundry Soap Trial.
Well it works. Mine did not gel
or thicken but it does leave the clothes
clean. On whites and lites I would
recommend pretreating stains.
I'm gonna try a similar recipe
to see if it gels and if it's a bit
more concentrated.
Until then...

Than go see my friend Sandra at:
She has a new PDF Sewing Pattern
for sale ONLY on her blog. Buy it and
you get to pick another pattern free.
Told ya it was a GREAT DEAL...

It's barely gonna be 10am
and it's already been one
of those days...what a Monday.
Maybe I should go back to
bed and get up again...hum...
now that's a thought.
Things change, people change
and then there's no going back.
I really dislike when someone
changes the rules, doesn't
mention the rule change and
then is mad when you don't
play by the new rules.
What to do, what to do???
Keep calm and carry on...

SNEAK PEAK...
SUCCESS in capital letters...
I am so STINKIN' EXCITED...
These turned out soooo well.
The pictures DO NOT do JUSTICE
to the print quality I got on
this fabric using my Ink Jet Printer.
The black and white is fabulous,
the color just so, so. I'll have to
play with the settings for the
color printing, but still
I am so pleased. I used Bella Solids, gray for
the top photo and
white for the the color prints.
Stay tuned for what I am
gonna do with these
masterpieces...until then.
SIDENOTE: Nate and Chase did
not believe that they wouldn't run, so
I washed them and they are still
perfect...nanny, nanny, booboo
you non-believers.

Ok, I mentioned in a previous
post that I wanted to make
laundry soap like the Duggar's do.
I purchased the ingredients:
Super Washing Soda $3.99
(there is enough here for several batches)
Borax $2.99
(there is enough here for several batches)
Fels Naptha $1.97
(need a bar for each batch)
5 Gallon Bucket $4.99
(reuse for each batch)
Lid $2.99(this one still makes me mad) I grated the Fels Naptha,
be careful towards the end
it was a little tricky not
grating my fingers.
I measured out 1/2 cup of Borax
and 1 cup of Washing Soda

I used a tape measure to mark
the outside of my bucket
with a half way mark.

Not sure why I have this
photo twice but can't make it go away.
I melted the grated soap
in 4 cups of hot tap water
over medium heat, stirring
frequently.

Until it was completely melted.

I filled my bucket with
hot tap water to the half way
line that I marked on my bucket
and added the melted soap and
the premeasured Borax and
Washing Soda.
I stirred until it was
mixed well and the
powder was dissolved.

I filled the rest of the bucket
with hot tap water, stirred it
well and placed the lid on it.

Now we wait overnight,
to let it thicken.
TO BE CONTINUED...

I pulled an all nighter to get
this baby done. I had 2 weeks to
work on it, had half of it
cut, but really had to hussle
yesterday so I could piece it,
sew it and wash and dry it.
Boy did my laundry room look like
a lint bomb exploded in there.
I worked from 9pm till 430am and it
turned out pefect. 7 squares wide
by 10 squares long, a whopping
140 squares I cut, almost as tall
as Nate...5' 4". 64 inches, whoo hoo...
I skipped the middle layer and
used a dark, rich denim to back it.
I wanted to keep it, but couldn't
as it was part of my talk for
Gage's baptism. I tried to finish
it early, but the creative process
happens when it's ready and
can not be forced. It was worth the
hussle and lack of sleep.
I absolutely loved it and so did
Gage. I was happy that he was happy.
My talk went well and now it's
time for a nap before, I make
some potato salad and head off
to a BBQ.
Happy Saturday.

OK, I mentioned earlier today
that I needed one of these,
a 5 gallon bucket and lid. Holy Moly
why are they so expensive???
And the thing that really
chapped me was,
you have to
pay seperate for the LID.
For weeks now Nate has been
trying to find an empty one,
on one of the tracks he visits
everyday, none to be found. So
my cheap, frugal self had to go
buy one, tragic I know.
By the way, you can find them
at your local hardware store.
I didn't take a picture of mine,
no way I'm advertising the
grumpy 'ol people who couldn't
stop visiting to help me find the
stinkin' lids that were stored
in a different room than the buckets.
Yes, you need the lid, why you ask?
KIDS...drowning...cleaner...
not a good mix.
So now that I have the bucket,
I'll cook up this little project
tomorrow after I finish speaking
at a baptism,
until then...

Ok, I'm sure you're thinking
what could these ingredients
possibly have to do with a new
recipe, well let me tell you.
The 1st picture is for making
laundry soap, Duggar style.
I have been wanting to make this
for months and keep forgetting
to buy a 5 gallon bucket for this
project, so today we will be searching
for one. I am a DIE HARD TIDE USER
and will do without needed food stuffs
if funds are tight in order to
purchase my much loved Tide.
So wish me luck and in a
few days I will let you know
whether it was a success or failure
in the Genuis category. I am so curious
about whether this will work or not.
Ok the 2nd picture is for
making a solution to treat
fabric in that will make it
colorfast so I can run it thru
my inkjet printer and print
on it, while allowing the fabric to
be washable. So once again
I'll update in a few days to
let you know if this was a
success or failure.
Well it's time to take my
little friends on a field trip
HAPPY FRIDAY...

What a school year it's been...
After today, Chase only has 3 1/2
days of school left, YIPEE.
He did very well considering
he encountered some serious
hearing problems half-way
thru the year that took a couple
months to diagnos. He had
surgery and has been doing well.
He was just a bit short making
the AR Reading Goal for the
awards cut off. He made it after
the awards were given. I don't
understand why they have the last
2 weeks of school if the grades
and contests were done
2 weeks ago. Anyhoo, I'm proud of him
and he also made the Principal's
Honor Roll which is great considering
how much work he had to do to
make up the 3 weeks he missed.
Again, I am very proud of him.
His writing grade by 1 point
kept him off the Honor
of Distinction Honor Roll.
And the most amazing thing
of all is he FINALLY reads on
his own, without having to be asked.
That in itself is wonderful. Since
last year, he has hated to read.
He was very vocal about it too.
But the light bulb went off
this last few weeks, and he is
asking to read, thank you,
thank you. I was so worried
about that. I just love this little guy
and am so proud to be his mom.

Watch out summer,
here we come...
